Sydney's best Mother's Day lunch ideas on the water

By Adam Bub | Posted 30 April, 2021

If you’re out of Mother’s Day lunch ideas in Sydney or just couldn’t get into that posh waterfront restaurant with the overpriced degustation, read on.

There’s one thing you can do that blows every other Mother’s Day lunch out of the water – and that’s hiring a boat on Sydney Harbour to celebrate all our wonderful ladies who lunch.

The mums in our lives deserve experiences. The kinds of moments where they can just sit back, sip champagne, enjoy the breeze and the views and Instagram the heck out of it. #MothersDay2021

So, for Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9, 2021, Floatspace would like to recommend a handful of magnificent motor boats, cocktail-ready catamarans and sexy luxury super yachts available for hire (at the time of writing) for your Mother's Day lunch.

All boats include a captain and crew, by the way.

1. Sydney Harbour BBQ boat hire

If you’re looking for a boat with a BBQ on board for your own private Mother's Day cruise, these are some Floatspace favourites:

Champagne Sailing: This sleek luxury catamaran has both undercover and interior areas for entertaining. Use the BBQ if you're keen to BYO food, or take advantage of their onboard catering by booking in advance. Champagne Sailing's crew also offer a preorder drinks pickup service - so when you board, the esky will be ready for you to pop a bottle of bubbly. From $550 an hour for up to 40 guests.

Nevaeh: What is Nevaeh backwards? You got it, Heaven. With its blue-and-white nautical style, this spacious catamaran is another all-weather beauty for small groups. Fill up the esky with BYO drinks and use the BBQ - or, if you so wish, book a breakfast, high tea or buffet in advance. From $375 an hour, up to 25 guests.

MV Ocean Blue: Who needs the Italian Riviera when you have a luxury Riviera boat like MV Ocean Blue? Enjoy a BBQ on the deck or lay out your seafood platter on the dining table in the main saloon. Cosy up on those leather lounges and relaaax. From $450 an hour, up to 16 guests.

2. A fully catered feast for foodie mums and families

On most Floatspace boats you can choose from BYO food and drinks or full catering and drinks package you book in advance (dietary requirements included). Here are some Mother’s Day 2021 lunch ideas:

Alila: Alila offers lunch box, picnic hamper, cheese board and cold banquet menus you can book in advance. If you prefer a BBQ, their crew will cook one up for you so you don’t have to lift a finger. Vegan and gluten-free options available. Enquire upon booking. Boat hire is from $425 an hour, up to 30 guests. Food and drinks are additional.

Barefoot: If you’re keen for a luxury Mother’s Day cruise with gourmet goodness, this luxury catamaran is one step ahead. If you opt for catering, Barefoot’s team will prepare barbecued seafood and meats, salads, fruit platters and cheese platters to your tastes. Boat hire is from $500 an hour, up to 30 guests. Food and drinks are additional.

Pisces: This modern cruiser is a favourite for intimate private charters. They can tailor a menu to your requirements, whether it’s cocktails or a gourmet seated lunch. For seated lunches, enjoy the harbour views from the fly-bridge (there’s room for six up there) or in the saloon (also room for six). Boat hire is from $675 an hour, for up to 30 guests. Food and drinks are additional.

3. Go to town with Mother’s Day lunch on a luxury yacht

If your budget has a little, uh, wiggle room, these luxury yacht charters more than fulfil the ‘spoil Mum’ brief.

State of The Art: One of Sydney’s most exclusive private charters, this luxury motor yacht is all polished timber floors, comfy lounges and stunning deck areas. With a huge cool room for drinks, State of The Art is worth having a ‘cheers’ to. From $700 an hour, up to 35 guests.

Southwinds: If you want a yacht with some history, Southwinds has stood the test of time since it was built in 1950. It’s a truly stunning sailing charter with woody tones and comfy lounges. It also has a licensed bar on board and both hot and cold canape catering options. From $800 per hour, up to 22 guests.

PS: Love ya, Mum.
